Age of Conan, Next Gen Or Not?
If you are interested in MMORPGs, you might have heard about Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures - savage and sexy game with Mature rating that Norwegian company Funcom is developing. Let's overview some of the advertised features that might make AoC worthy of being called the "next generation" MMORPG. The graphics The graphics engine of Age of Conan utilizes DX10.0 to provide all that eye-candy on the screen, and will be the first MMO to do so. You can still play on DX9, however. The combat system Age of Conan is the first MMO with a 'real combat' system. Instead of selecting your target and choosing a skill to execute on him, you target the swings of your weapons in real-time, choosing where you want to hit your enemies. The mounted combat AoC is also the first MMO to offer mounted combat to players: you will be able to ride a horse, a rhino or even a mammoth, and attack your foes from above. Age of Conan has a number of other impressive features, too, such as castle siege system, beautiful soundtracks and such; however, these have been done before and are nothing revolutionary. What I'd also like to mention is spellweaving, the special system of magic that AoC will have; regrettably, due to lack of official info, not much known is about spellweaving at all.
